What will they learn?

LIFE SKILLS & FOUNDATION MARTIAL ARTS The classes are packed with exercises to ensure that your child gets the best of martial arts and increase their life skills, as well as building areas such as discipline, focus, self-control, fitness, confidence, perseverance and many other areas. FITNESS THROUGH FUN Our classes are always fast-paced and pack full of all the exciting martial arts moves. We focus a lot on partner work to help your kids learn, interact and socialise with other children, which is especially important if they are going to develop into successful and confident adults. A positive class where your kids will burn off some energy! FOCUS & DISCIPLINE We instil a sense of discipline in our kids' martial arts classes, which means your child will quickly develop more focus and confidence, therefore, you will see great improvements in their concentration levels and from this, it is proven that children who participate in martial arts achieve more at school.

Self-Defence

Children need to be able to defend themselves and avoid being bullied at school, therefore in our kid’s martial arts classes, we include forms of self-defence. However, we do not teach your child how to be aggressive, our classes teach children traditional martial arts values, such as respect for oneself and others.

Safety First

All the benefits outlined above with the knowledge that our program is EXTREMELY safe. Martial arts have fewer injuries a year than any other sport because our syllabus and venue are designed with safety in mind.

What are our Cadets and Adult Taekwon-Do?

Taekwon-Do is the fastest growing martial art in the world, and it’s not just because it teaches you self defence. TATU Taekwon-Do is an excellent way to develop healthy bodies & minds, but above all, it teaches you respect for yourself and others. And just like a normal martial arts class, you will be able to grade and move up the belt system, allowing them to strive for goals and have a sense of accomplishment. Going forward, you’ll have the opportunity to join our community events and competitions or even take part in our assistant instructor programme.

What is ITF Taekwon-Do?

We are affiliated with the International Taekwon-Do Federation. The ITF is the International Taekwon-Do Federation, founded on March 22, 1966, in Seoul (south) Korea, by General Choi Hong Hi, who developed Taekwon-Do, to promote teaching and growth of this martial art. The ITF is the organisation that represents, promotes, and works for the development of the practice of Taekwon-Do in all countries by:

  • Coordinating Taekwon-Do activities such as competitions and seminars.
  • Setting and enforcing high-quality standards for technical and teaching
  • Identifying and collaborating with affiliated organizations.
  • Certification for Black Belt holders, international instructors and umpires.

What will you learn?

PATTERNS & TRADITIONAL MOVES Patterns are a set of attacking and defensive movements against imaginary opponents. This is the aspect in which the "Art" side of Taekwon-Do is shown. Since Taekwon-Do is a Military Martial Art, the traditional moves are practised in line work, we use this method to teach students how to create maximum power from their techniques. FITNESS & PAD WORK Every lesson will have some aspect of fitness work, mainly cardio work. Martial arts is a guaranteed way to lose weight and tone up faster than ever. We help you increase your fitness and technique by complimenting our traditional syllabus with pad work combinations using strike shields, focus pads and Thai pads, we practice both sparring and traditional techniques to enable the student to bring out maximum power and speed in their movements, without the risk of hurting each other. SPARRING & SELF-DEFFENSE This is considered the sports side of Taekwon-Do although it is an art in itself. Sparring is practised under controlled conditions with full safety equipment. We also offer all students the opportunity to test and hone their skills in tournaments (both national and international), many of which are offered to our students throughout the year. Worcester Taekwon-Do and Kickboxing are very successful on the tournament circuit, boasting many numbers of British, European and World Champions. We also teach close quarters self-defence to do with grappling and groundwork. For ladies, personal safety, self-defence, defence from hair and bag grabs and rape defence is also taught.

Gradings & Competitions

Similar to other martial art systems Taekwon-Do operates a belt system, colour belt testing takes place every 4 months, following the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) syllabus. It takes a minimum of 5 years to achieve a black belt with TATU Taekwon-Do if regularly training twice a week. TATU Taekwon-Do attends a variety of national and international competitions throughout the year, competitions are compulsory from green tag to advance to next belt.

Getting Started

What should I bring to my first class?

Plenty of water, any medication you may need and wear loose clothing you would wear for gym or PE.

I don't have experience, do I have to be fit?

The main priority is the preservation and promotion of health. And Taekwon-Do is perfect for this. Regardless of the gender and age of the student, his skills and level of training, Taekwon-Do is an excellent basis for strengthening and preserving health. However, if you do have any existing medical conditions, or sustain any injuries between classes, please ensure you inform the instructor BEFORE training commences.

How save is Taekwon-Do?

Taekwon-Do is a full-contact martial art, yet the injury rate in taekwondo is kept to a minimum. Protective equipment, including shin and handguards, gloves,
foot protection, groin protection, protector (protective vest), helmet, and mouth guard, allows you to conduct sports duels without the risk of serious injury.
The safety and comfort of our students is always a consideration and we do our utmost to protect their well-being. Martial Arts do have a level of contact and injuries can occur, our instructors are fully trained first aiders.

Prior Experience

I already have a Taekwon-Do rank

Colour belt & black students who are currently training in ITF Taekwon-Do and hold ITF rank certificates will be recognised, provided that they submit a copy of their rank certificate and can perform the syllabus following the standard of our school. Colour belt & black belt students who have previously trained in ITF Taekwon-Do but have had a break for over 1 year will also need to provide certification but may be withheld from grading until the syllabus is performed up to standard. Students with colour belt ranks from other non-ITF/Chang Hon styles of Taekwon-Do generally will be allowed to keep their rank, however, progression in grade will only occur when the student has completed the ITF syllabus to the standard of our school. Students with a black belt from other styles of Taekwon-Do (other than ITF) will be handled on a case by case basis, please do not be offended if we ask you to re-assess the syllabus.

I already have a rank in another Martial Art.

Students with a certified rank from martial arts other than Taekwon- Do will be required to start at white belt. Although there may be some similarities between art forms, our syllabus is very strict and we grade our students to the highest standards.
